It’s the job of the portrait photographer to identify which part of the subject’s psyche is most emotionally available and to connect to it.

A photograph is the document of that connection.

After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in photography, Juliet Lofaro dove into New York’s downtown art scene, shooting portraits and parties and even headshots for punk bands. Her working style developed on film sets, where she developed a necessary efficiency for finding the moments where she could connect with her subjects.

Her career spans from processing film and printing it herself to the magical wonders of the digital photography realm.

Today, she’s traded Limelight for upstate and motherhood where she continues to bring her expertise to portraiture for professional and personal use. The one constant is her enduring talent for making the connection that makes the shot.

A third-generation "picture maker," Juliet spent her formative years in Woodstock, where art abounds and constant contact with nature made the picturesque tangible, perceptible, and ever present.

Her favorite part about being back upstate is all the interesting people and ever changing scenes. Portraiture brings a chance to connect with so many people and she promises to find the beauty in everyone who walks in.

Juliet Lofaro Portrait Studio

Today, she’s back in Woodstock, creating portraits in an inviting studio on Mill Hill Road. The space is a cool and contemporary little jewel box filled with natural light. Think: Hollywood Upstate. Sophisticated but not stuffy. Put together but approachable. Infused, once again, with the creativity that abounds in the Catskill Mountains. Juliet's enduring talent for connecting with others is still the secret ingredient that always makes the shot.

She will make you feel like a star.
