Nephew Marly’s 18th birthday today. I felt I was late to the game, not meeting him until he was three days old. I remembered this as I looked through the archives. All the cute baby photos and birthday cakes… but I feel like sharing right now is what’s most important: He’s Eighteen! 😳💞🎂🎉

More Jana! We met at a mixer at CoWork Kingston in February. I won a month there one night playing Drag Bingo in Woodstock at @queerlyqueerly. Spending time at a desk at CoWork and having access to their “phone booths” for zoom calls have made for my most productive days. Next up, we are collaborating with the @coworkkingston and @senategarage communities on a project I’ll share down the road.

Funster Friday! Heidi and Jeffrey appreciation day! These two qualify as some of my muses when I look at where they appear in my work. First frame was for my Woodstock Townspeople project. Heidi grew up in Woodstock and they have @outofthewoodsproductions here together. The second frame was for @glampstars . The last one was this time four years ago, April 2020, and I’d been alone with my kids for a month with nobody else to photograph. I was outside and a passing car honked. I waved. They stopped. Realizing it was them, I yelled “Can I take your picture!?” I ran back in my house to get a camera. During my first ten years shooting professionally, my portfolio was 100% black and white. I was on an adventure, meeting people, making friends, connecting, and having fun. Everything was new. I still feel like I’m on an adventure, and connecting with people is my favorite part of life and work. Shideh called me to discuss images for her website and we chose an early morning coffee shop location. Because it was familiar to both of us, we were quickly aligned on light and atmosphere for the shoot. We decided on wardrobe via her sending me pics in different looks the week before. Sometimes I’ll do this on a video call, or even a house call. I love that she chose this picture for her “About” page. By this point in the session, she felt set that she had photos she already loved. We stayed and kept talking. This unselfconscious moment of connection is really the perfect “Hello, it’s nice to meet you.” The second shot is her “Welcome” image, and the third one I’m currently using as my website homepage image.
